The history of this area has been turbulent since the early days of history. This is where the ancestors of Homosapiens migrated from Africa to Europe. For Greek and Roman culture, the columns of Heracles represented the end of the built world. It was here that the invasion of Muslims on the Iberian Peninsula began in 711 BC, after more than 700 years of Moorish and three centuries of the Spanish government, from 1704 until today replaced the life under the "eternal" British crown. And the British flag will blow on the rock until the last macaque leaves.
