The city has a really long and intricate history, which allegedly dates back to the 8th century BC. However, the first historically documented settlement was founded by the Phoenicians in the 2nd century BC. In 152 BC, the city under the name Corduba was added to the Roman Empire.
During the migration of nations, the Vandals temporarily resided here, then the town was conquered by the Byzantine Empire (544-571) and later by the Visigoths (572). Subsequently, the city fell. In 711 it was conquered by the Arabs and five years later Córdoba became the capital of the Islamic Emirate of Al-Andalus (since 756 the Emirate of Cordoba, since 929 of the Caliphate of Cordoba).
